'Big Charlie' Taylor at Halloween night
Saturday 26th October (5pm), 'Big Charlie' Taylor (510) is getting back out on the track after hanging up his crash helmet 8 years ago.
He made the decision to race again earlier this year when he was diagnosed with Lung and Liver cancer. He wanted one last race and felt it would be the perfect opportunity to raise money for St Helena Hospice.
Big Charlie has a GoFundMe page and the Shunters will be bringing donation buckets round the pits and arena on the night. (https://www.gofundme.com/f/4qxecd?fbclid=IwAR0wwlAfPhc80ohHtV4qUOvcWlbOJXsKYyt8iJM3EguTNFggRCCwE7ZeYN4)
Big Charlie started his racing career in his early 20's where he formed team Shunters with friends at Braintree raceway. He carried on racing over the next 35 years, and had his son's and grandchildren follow in his footsteps.
Big Charlie still oversees the Shunters racing to this day but has handed the racing over to his boy's; 'Baby' Charlie Taylor (514) and 'Shaggy' Sean Harvey (513).
The Shunters are looking forward to the Halloween Carnival Night; Big Charlie (510) is bringing a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 2 door, with Baby (514) having a matching earlier model, and Shaggy (513) with a Mk10 Ford Fairlane Hearse, and Lewis Harvey (512) is coming back for his Dad's race with a Mk10 Ford Fairlane Hearse as well.
About St Helena Hospice
We help local people face incurable illness and bereavement, supporting them and their families, friends and carers. We also support children and adults who are facing bereavement.
We reach out to members of our community, helping them make their own choices and live with dignity. By focusing on their physical, emotional and spiritual needs, we aim to bring comfort and relief to all those who need it, offering the people of North Essex individual care and total support, regardless of their diagnosis or personal circumstances.
We rely heavily on the help and generosity of our fundraisers, donors and volunteers. Without them we wouldn’t be here. We all share a common goal: to be here every step of the way for everyone who needs us, helping life to go on in the face of dying, death and bereavement.
