Introduction
Bank holiday Monday (28 August, 1pm) at the Adrian Flux Arena is the second annual ‘Crash for Cancer’ event with an enormous entry of Big Van Bangers headlining the programme, set to provide wall-to-wall action. The Lady Bangers contest their second biggest event of the year, the British Championship, while the programme is completed by the hilarious Reliant Robins.
Any driver who is looking to race but not booked in must book in asap on 01553 771111 / 07939 580652. If you are listed below and no longer able to race you must also ensure you cancel asap. Any driver turning up not booked in will not receive their complimentary admissions they may be entitled to.
There are currently 70 Big Van Bangers, 17 Reliant Robins and 19 Lady Bangers booked in for action.
Drivers please note that the pits open at 10am and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.
There will be a parade for all Vans and Reliant Robins at 12.30pm. Please note that you will need to have been scrutineered to be eligable to go on this. Immediately after the parade there will be a drivers briefing for Van and Robin Drivers only.
Big Van Bangers
The second Big Van meeting of the year has an absolutely fantastic entry that combines van specialists with the top all-rounders, stars of the past and those just out to have fun.
Expect plenty of action from the Big Van Bangers this Bank Holiday Monday
Some of course fit into more than one of those categories, such as 186 Mick Gedney, the Predators legend who came out of retirement as the driving force behind last year’s hugely successful meeting. Other stars of the past include 55 Mick, 66 Dave and 77 Lee Ivatt, as well as 51 Les Jackson, 439 Paul Sutton and 707 Mark Nottingham, who – like Gedney – is extending his ‘one-off’ return from last year to another outing this time around. 293 Nick Houghton, 569 Kev Wales and 902 Tony Lowther are three more veterans out to enjoy a good day’s crashing.
186 Mick Gedney will be hoping to keep his van on all four wheels this coming Monday
The Big Van specialists include the likes of 170 Chris Shipp, 372 Barry Overland and 851 Adam Storr, who will be joined by father 853 Tony Storr.
Big van specialist 851 Adam Storr will be in action!
Crowd-pleasing crashers 388 Taylor Sowter and 884 Tom Filmer are certain to keep things lively, whilst the Mad Mob’s 791 Nicky ‘Spud’ Young, are sure to be on the hunt for the day’s entertainer awards too.
The Aftermath’s 100 Callum White has promised to “get in the way” and spend more time going backwards than forwards, which will liven up proceedings – if it were needed!
Expect the vans to produce plenty of top line entertainment!
If they can avoid the inevitable chaos, the drivers perhaps most likely to do the winning are British Champion and national points leader 830 Lee White, plus defending points champion 88 Lyndon Stark and his brother 888 Lloyd Stark.
Lady Bangers
The Lady Bangers British Championship is a prestigious title, defended by 127 Helen Roberts.
A former winner who definitely is in the field is 477 Amy Brown, who as Gold Roof champion and national points champion, needs only this title to hold all the majors concurrently. She is yet to win a points-paying race at the track this season though, so will be hoping to put that right this weekend.
Perennial frontrunner 74 Caroline Garner will be another major contender, while 17 Kelly Smith,
Major contender 17 Kelly Smith will be hoping to avoid being involved in any incidents like this!
332 Kelly Wilson and 511 Liz Williams will all fancy their chances of lifting a first title.
There is a King's Lynn debut for former Ministox racer 346 Lauren Nichols.
Reliant Robins
The three-wheelers are likely to spend as much time on their roofs as on all their wheels, shedding bodywork as they go.
Reliant Robin races are always action packed
The entry is power-packed with big names such as world champion 85 James Ellis, national points champion 385 Roy Gedge and 2016 World of Shale champion 553 Daniel Douglas. But last time at King’s Lynn, it was 9 Dale Russell who charged to a surprise heat-and-final double, with Douglas also a race winner.
