Introduction
The biggest Stock Car meetings of the season take place at King’s Lynn on Saturday where the destiny of the F2 World Championship will be shaped with the staging of the F2 Stock Car World Semi Finals and the World Championship will be concluded for the 1300 Stock Cars with the staging of the 1300 Stock Car World Final.
Please note that this meeting is currently fully booked. Any driver turning up who is not listed below will not be allowed to race. Any driver who is listed but no longer able to race must contact the TSR office on 01553 771111 or 07939 580652. Any driver who would like to go on the reserve list must do the same.
There are currently 84 BriSCA F2 Stock Cars and 70 1300cc Stock Cars booked in for action.
Drivers please note that the pits open at 12 Noon and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers who turn up after 2pm may not be allowed to race unless they have informed the promotion beforehand on the above numbers.
BriSCA F2 Stock Car World Semi Final
Following a tough and arduous qualifying series which began back in March and has seen drivers travel the length and breadth of the country in search of qualifying points it is now “do or die” as far as aspirations for the World Final go for F2 Stock Car drivers.
606 Andrew Palmer will have big hopes of winning his Semi Final on Saturday
The top 56 qualifiers from the World Series now progress to one of two Semi Finals which both take place at King’s Lynn on Saturday night. The top 10 drivers from each of these gladiatorial contests will qualify for the World Final. With the World Final taking place at the tight and tricky Mildenhall circuit which could well see the middle order trip over each over getting a top three finish in a Semi is seen as vital for those with golden aspirations and who are keen to get away from the front and avoid any unfolding chaos behind them.
606 Andrew Palmer was the top qualifier in the series and is very quick around King’s Lynn. He starts the first Semi Final from pole position and will be looking to win the race. He has former World Champion 7 Gordon Moodie start alongside him. The popular Scottish Superstar has not race shale much at all over the past few years but used to be dominant around King’s Lynn. Much interest will centre upon whether Moodie crosses swords with his arch nemesis 218 Rob Speak who starts a few rows further back and is very quick on shale. The driver that the front rows may have most to worry about though is 38 David Polley who starts on the second row and has already declared he is not coming on Saturday to qualify but coming to win – and a lap one wipeout of the first row could well be the best way that Polley can secure that! Several other rivalries on this grade should make the race compulsive viewing.
Will 38 David Polley be following his own advise on Saturday?
The second Semi Final is littered with big shale names. 647 Chris Burgoyne is having an exceptional season and has already won the British and European Championships. Whether Chris can get back to grips with the Lynn shale to give him a realistic chance of winning the gold remains to be seen. The driver alongside him – although graded blue at the moment – is probably one of the favourites for the World Final. 103 Carl Issit is very quick around Lynn and he is a previous Mildenhall track champion. However with drivers being determined for a top three finish and with this race featuring shale big guns such as 968 Micky Brennan, 226 Billy Webster, 488 Liam Bentham, 905 Rob Mitchell, 871 Mark Simpson, 977 Dave Massey, 995 Michael Lund, 225 Tony Blackburn and 377 Daz Shaw competition for those top places is going to be intense. This Semi Final will also see 55 Courtney Finnikin bidding to become the first female driver to qualify for a BriSCA F2 Stock Car World Final since 918 Sarah Bowden back in 1993.
Issit going to be the year of 103 Carl? The Spalding driver will never get a better opportunity of winning the World Final
The support heat will include interest from the Netherlands in the shape of H10 Jelle Tesselaar, H84 Christian Smidt, H103 Chris van der Lest and H109 Ton Hendriks.
The best placed Semi Finalist in the meeting final will secure the inside grid positions for all drivers in their Semi Final in the World Final.
Will 55 Courtney Finnikin become the first female driver to qualify for an F2 Stock Car World Final since 918 Sarah Bowden in 1993
Drivers are reminded that the pits will open at 12 Noon, there is no practice for any F2 Drivers and drivers must be at the stadium by 2pm at the latest or they may forfeit their place in the Semi Final. Any driver who may be late should contact the promotion on 07939 580652.
1300 Stock Cars
It is World Final time at the Adrian Flux Arena this Saturday for 1300 Stock Cars – and it is looking like the formula could see a new attendance record set with 71 cars booked in for action.
1300cc Stock Car Races are always action packed
The world final will see representation from all of the major promotions involved in the association with Trackstar, Spedeworth, HRP and DMP all filling their allocation which is fantastic to see.
Calm before the storm at last year's 1300cc Stock Car World Final
The Trackstar challenge is headed by current National Points leader 333 Dan Weavers. Dan has had an exceptional season in and will be full of confidence entering his first World Final. Other top TSR drivers who have qualified in the first few rows are 149 Todd Payne, 216 Dan Booth and 317 Lauren Overy. Payne has really hit the ground running in June which saw him debut a new car and win the Steve Newman Memorial back in June whilst 216 Dan Booth has had a solid season as he returned to the formula and has always been one of the front runners. 317 Lauren Overy has been a revelation since joining the formula and has shot up the grades. Can she become the third teenage winner of this title in the past four years?
Will 317 Lauren Overy crown of an outstanding debut season by getting on the world final rostrum?
Defending World Champion 129 Will Morphey leads the Spedeworth entry. Morphey proved his World win was no fluke by going on to win the Spedeworth points. His chance of becoming the first drive to successfully defend the title in a decade could be hampered by a number of fueds he has had on his visits to Lynn this year which could scupper his chances in the big race but if he gets away at the front he could be difficult to catch. The other top Spedeworth seeds include 167 Jimmy Morris and 171 Adam O Dell. Neither has visited Lynn this year but O Dell’s victory in the European last year and Morris’s successful defence of the Steve Newman Memorial last year – with both successes taking place at King’s Lynn – show that both drivers know the quick way around here.
Will Spedeworth Superstar come up the inside four abreast to take the chequered this Saturday?
Scottish points leader & Scottish Champion 99 Callum Barclay will be making his first Lynn appearance since 2012 – he did manage two top ten places that day though to show that he can get round on shale so cannot be discounted. The Mathieson brothers – 124 Andrew and 125 Euan – have previous experience around Lynn and have also been amongst the results as well so will have a good chance of being amongst the top places.
Will Scottish Champion 99 Calum Barclay have anything to celebrate as he makes his first appearance at King's Lynn since 2012
Three Irish drivers will be making their Lynn and shale debuts – 33 Jon McQuillan, 52 Aaron Rainey and 921 Peter Greer. Whilst the lack of shale racing will prove a disadvantage to the trio they all have proven success at home with Aaron in particular in the middle of a great run of form at the moment which culminated with him Irish Masters at Aghadowey just three weeks ago. If the fueds all kick off around them, one of these three could sneak under the radar to produce a surprise result.
Irish driver 33 Jon McQuillan will be hoping to take world honours across the water
There are many other drivers in the World Final from all promotions who are capable of taking the win – indeed the beauty of this formula is that predicting a winner is impossible.
34 drivers in total have been seeded onto the World Final grid with a further 8 places up for grabs through the last chance which will make a 42 car world final grid. Don’t be surprised to see a last chance qualifier come through to be in the hunt for honours from the back of the grid with the likes of 116 Diggy Smith, 122 Zak Gilmour and 473 Dean Moat all more than capable to come from the back if they can get through the chaos of the 30+ car last chance race!
Who will be applying gold paint to the roof of their car on Saturday?
Following the World Final there will be two all comer races which are open to the first 40 cars in each. The meeting will end with a three abreast clutch start Dash for the Cash race which will pay £250 to the winner with £50 going to the best white, yellow, blue, red and superstar driver after the race winner.
The meeting will end with the first ever 1300cc Stock Car 3 abreast clutch start race to take place on shale with a £500 Dash for the Cash
