Introduction
Saturday night’s racing at the Adrian Flux Arena, King’s Lynn (13 May, 5:30pm) features the biggest event of the season at the track for 1300cc Stock Cars, with their British Championship up for grabs. Also on the bill are the bigger two-litre Saloon Stock Cars and 1500cc National Bangers.
There are currently 64 1300 Stock Cars, 37 2L Stock Cars & 49 1500cc Bangers booked in to race.
Please note that any driver who turns up unbooked will not receive any complimentary admissions which they may be entitled to.
If you are not booked in and would like to do so you must book in through your association. Any 2L Stock Car Drivers wishing to race should book in through the SSCA secretary. If you are booked in and no longer able to race you must make sure you cancel your booking which can be done on the same number.
Any 1300 Stock Car bookings or cancelations must be done through your own promoter. TSR 1300 drivers and 1500cc Bangers can book in and cancel on 01553 771111 / 07939 580652
Drivers please note that the pits open at 2pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race. 1300 Stock Cars in particular are required to arrive early to enable a number of pre meeting checks to be done. Drivers who arrive late may find themselves missing their race.
1300cc Stock Cars
Defending and three-time British champion 171 Adam O’Dell heads the entry on what will be a busy night for the Bedfordshire driver, racing in two formulas. This will be what is now a relatively rare appearance for O’Dell in the 1300s as he seeks a record fourth British crown.
171 Adam O Dell will be seeking a record breaking fourth British title in the 1300 Stock Cars on Saturday
There are plenty of drivers capable of stopping him though. 371 Mark Bloss won the British on the last occasion it was held at the track, while 333 Dan Weavers won the last major raced on shale – the biggest of them all, the World Championship.
The legendary 116 Diggy Smith is currently the man to beat in the formula and will certainly be in contention, while former Trackstar top dog 340 Wes Freestone makes a welcome return and is on the hunt for silverware.
Will the returning 340 Wes Freestone be in the hunt for athebig rown?
As well as O’Dell, Bloss and Smith, other major threats from the Spedeworth ranks include European champion 713 Ian Beaumont and 2015 World champion 129 Will Morphey.
There are several Scottish visitors who will look to throw a spanner in the works, headed by brothers 124 Andrew and 125 Euan Mathieson, along with regular visitor 67 Craig Haxton and 262 Dean McGill.
125 Euan Mathieson will be one of the top Scottish hopes.
Looking to score a home success are 450 Luke Jackson and young guns 317 Lauren Overy and 341 Austen Freestone. There is also a first appearance in the formula, following two years sidelined by injury, for 391 Jake Banwell.
Will young gun 317 Lauren Overy be aongst the silverware for the home drivers?
The enormous entry features plenty more drivers who will be looking to secure their places on the grid via a last-chance qualifying race.
1300 Stock Car races are always full of action!
Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars
Fresh from winning the English Championship last time out, 6 Simon Welton will be aiming for a fourth final win out of five at the track this season. He will be hoping that doesn’t make him a target as appeared to be the case when he was gunning for a hat trick last month.
Can World & English Champion 6 Simon Welton continue his amazing run of final wins this Saturday?
National champion 428 Lee Sampson will have the gold stripe on his car – but for how much longer, as he defends it in Devon the following week. Fellow local champion drivers 641 Willie Skoyles Jr (European) and 730 Deane Mayes (national points and ORC) complete a star-studded line-up in the champions grade.
From a little further forward, 306 Daniel Parker and 349 Michael Allard have been top-performers so far in 2017, while 499 David Aldous will be hoping to avoid some of the rough treatment he has been receiving in recent weeks.
349 Michael Allard has been in great form this year and came close to claiming a hat trick at Mildenhall last week
570 Simon Venni and 218 Jacob Downey completed the trophy placings in the English championship and will aim to continue that strong form this weekend.
With new grades in force, it will be interesting to see how 538 Jake Swann fares from his career-first red grading, while moving in the other direction, 304 Martyn Parker (yellow) and 800 Scott Greenslade (white) could be major threats from nearer the front of the grid.
It will be interesting to see how 538 Jake Swann performs as a first time star grade driver
1500cc Bangers
Domestic sessions in the medium-sized cars always provide plenty of action, and this should be no different. 566 Tony Pallett will proudly display the gold cross of national champion on his car, while World of Shale champion 88 Lyndon Stark will also be out to prove he is the local scene’s top dog.
National Champion 566 Tony Pallett is one of the top drivers in the 1500cc Bangers
Early-season pace-setters 830 Lee White and 888 Lloyd Stark will aim to continue their strong form, while 337 Ashley Garrod, 338 Terry Garrod and UK champion 322 Tom Fox should never be discounted.
Starting nearer the front of the field are the specialist crashers – none more so than Entertainers League champion 339 Jack Garrod and teenage star 178 Kieran Bowman
Teenage star 178 Kieran Bowman is one of the formulas specialist crashers!
Others sure to inject some hard-hitting action into proceedings include Shunters duo 513 Sean Harvey and 514 Charlie Taylor and current Entertainers League frontrunner 171 Andy Frost.
