Introduction
The Shootout for the BriSCA Formula One Stock Car National Points Championship crown reaches its penultimate round at the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday night (22 October, 5:30pm), with a large entry of the sport’s biggest stars set to do battle. Also in action on a big night of stock car racing are Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars, who have two titles on the line, and the stars of the future in National Ministox.
Bookings are still available for this meeting.

BriSCA Formula One
With just two rounds to go in the National Points Shootout, it’s Leicestershire’s 445 Nigel Green who currently leads the way as he chases the silver roof that has been his focus all year. However, the legendary 318 Rob Speak – set to make his last ever appearance at the track before embarking on a new career as a promoter – is breathing down his neck, just five points behind. Speak scored a consolation and final double last time out at King’s Lynn, and that kind of form must make him the favourite for success. King's Lynn has tended to be the defining round of the National Points chase in recent years and following a big weekend of heavy action on the tar last weekend, the action is set to go a notch higher again this Saturday.
Multi Champion 318 Rob Speak will be making his final F1 Stock Car appearance at King's Lynn and will be looking to go out with a bang!
In addition to Speak, three other former champions are chasing Green down, although they all have some ground to make up in the points. Currently in third, despite only having one car at his disposal to use on both surfaces, is 84 Tom Harris. The ‘Hitman’ dominated last weekend’s tarmac affairs at Birmingham and Northampton; can he translate that form to shale, at the track where he was crowned World Champion three years ago?
84 Tom Harris made up a lot of ground in the Shootout last weekend to move into third place
Next up is defending champion 4 Dan Johnson. The Worksop man has hauled his way back into contention, winning the final at Sheffield two weeks ago, then placing second at Birmingham last weekend. He was on the end of some rough stuff at Northampton, so expect him to be using the bumper to full effect this weekend.
4 Dan Johnson was involved in some big incidents at Northampton last weekend and will be looking to bounce back!
Fifth in the standings, but nearly 70 points off the pace, is World Champion 515 Frankie Wainman Jr. Winner of the first two finals of the year at King’s Lynn, he has been the man to beat all year, particularly on shale, but now finds himself with only an outside chance of securing the silver roof.
No less than a final win will suffice for World Champion 1 Frankie Wainman if he wants to keep alive his hopes of winning the silver roof
Sixth-placed 2 Paul Harrison has had a strong year, including winning the final at the Adrian Flux Arena in May, plus two further top-three places in the main events at the track. He could prove to be a spoiler, like 212 Danny Wainman who currently occupies seventh and could well have at least half an eye on his elder brother’s chances.
Norfolk’s top BriSCA F1 pilot 16 Mat Newson would have been aiming for better than his current eighth place in the Shootout standings, considering his second position in the season-long points chart, and will be hoping that home shale allows him to make some headway.
Norfolk's 16 Matt Newson will be hoping for a good night at his home track
150 Mick Sworder has won more races at King’s Lynn than anyone else over the last few years, and is sure to entertain the crowd with his win-or-bust attitude. 217 Lee Fairhurst and 220 Will Hunter are more than capable on their day; Hunter could be one to watch after making the sparks fly last weekend.
220 Will Hunter was certainly making the sparks fly last weekend with some big hits including a big attack on 212 Danny Wainman
Of course it’s not all about the ‘Shooters’, with the strong turnout packed full of plenty more potential spoilers. 94 John Dowson Jr and 104 Paul Spooner both went well at our last outing, while 335 Mark Woodhull is something of a track specialist and local favourite 326 Mark Sargent is sure to have plenty of support on the terraces.
94 John Dowson always puts in a great performance at King's Lynn and is likely to be amongst the front runners on Saturday
Former World Champions 53 John Lund and 390 Stuart Smith Jr, along with 259 Paul Hines, are some of the big names not in contention for the Shootout. Then at the other end of the spectrum are rising stars 25 Bradley Harrison, 422 Ben Riley and 555 Frankie Wainman Jr Jr who all surely have very bright futures.

The Driver of the Year title, sponsored by Ray Goudy Trailer Repairs, is on the line for the Heavy Metal Brigade. The big race promises to be a Battle Royale with a Prize Pot exceeding £1000 and paying £500 to the winner! Great Yarmouth star 349 Michael Allard will start on pole position after the season-long qualifying campaign which uses a grades-based weighting system, as well as rewarding attendance. Fellow National Banger graduate 888 Shane Emerson starts alongside, with 570 Simon Venni and 525 Wes Starmer making up row two. ORC Champion 499 David Aldous will fancy his chances from the inside of row three, where he starts alongside Cambridgeshire veteran 420 Ivan Street. World Champion 6 Simon Welton and former English Champion 304 Martyn Parker have also qualified in the top 10.
349 Michael Allard starts the Ray Goudy Trailer Repairs Driver of the Year Final on pole position
Aldous was in imperious form to win the Bumper Trophy last time out at the track, lifting him to the head of the track championship standings, as he seeks his seventh consecutive track points title. He headed home Welton in that event, with the World Champion having remarkably been the runner-up in each of the last three finals at the track. That lifted him to second in the track points and, were it not for a couple of missed meetings, he might already have had the title sewn up, as he has the highest average score of anyone.
Who would dare bet against 499 David Aldous who came from a lap down to win the Bumper Trophy Final at King's Lynn last month?
A bad session for Allard that night, full of mechanical dramas, meant the long-time leader of the points slipped to third overall. He returned to form at Mildenhall last weekend though, with a heat win and final second, so will aim to replicate those kind of results on Saturday night and just hope that’s enough.
Elsewhere, top locals 428 Lee Sampson and 641 Willie Skoyles Jr who defends the Driver of the Year title, the National and European Champions respectively, will be looking for some good results on their home track. Former English Champion 306 Daniel Parker will be a strong contender, and 2016 revelation 733 Kyle Picton will be aiming to prove he can win from the red grade.
641 Willie Skoyles won the 2L Stock Car Driver of the Year title last year
There is another welcome visit from Scotsman 600 Barry Russell, a first outing of the year at the track for 24 Richard Skeels and the first for while for each of 52 Stuart Tointon , 128 Craig Banwell and 331 Mackenzie Whitehead. Local Banger drivers 100 Callum White and 127 Will Longford join the list of those giving Saloons a go, along with Rebels Racer 759 Joe Wardle.
600 Barry Russell makes the long trip down from Scotland
1300cc Stock Car megastar 171 Adam O’Dell will be hoping to reproduce some of his small-car form after having had a few meetings to settle in to the big Saloons. Starting from the red grade doesn’t make life easy for the Bedfordshire man, but he certainly has the ability.
BriSCA Ministox
The Ministox make their first appearance at the track in several months with a much improved entry of under-16-year-olds. The King’s Lynn Open Championship is up for grabs, a race run with the grid in qualifying points order, which should add some spice to the heats. Last year’s winner Eddie Collins is now too old for the formula, so there should be a new name on the trophy this weekend.
The field is headed by Hertforshire-based National Champion #1 Charlie Guinchard, while track expert 8 Catherine Harris and 152 Charlie Sworder should also be frontrunners. First-year driver 180 Jack Witts could be one to watch, while 391 Rebecca Smith has also made good progress this year.
8 Catherine Harris is always a strong performer around King's Lynn
Several drivers, including 798 Finn Sargent, make the relatively short trip from Lincolnshire, while at the other end of the scale, Plymouth’s 613 Chloe Serpell will once again be travelling a long way to take part.
With this being the only point-scoring outing of the year at King’s Lynn for the Ministox, it also makes the event a one-day track championship. Who will succeed last year’s dominator Courtney Witts?
