Introduction
After a three-week break, stock car and banger racing action returns to the Adrian Flux Arena this weekend with a double-header featuring racing on Saturday night (5pm) and Sunday afternoon (1pm).
Saturday’s action features the two-litre Saloon Stock Car British Championship, together with Unlimited Bangers contesting the War of the Worlds team championship.
There are currently 62 2L Stock Cars and 107 Unlimited Bangers booked in to race.
Please note that any driver who turns up unbooked will not receive any complimentary admissions that they may be entitled to and may also not be allowed to race if the event is still fully booked.
Drivers should book in to race through their association.
2L Stock Car Drivers should book in / Cancel through Marion at the SSCA
Bangers should book in / cancel on 07939 580652
Drivers please note that the pits open at 1pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.
Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars
A massive entry, bigger than at any meeting in the country since last year’s World Final, will be in action, with every driver hoping to end the night with the black-and-white chequered roof of British champion.
Action aplenty is guaranteed at every 2L Stock Car meeting!
Defending the title is Scotsman 85 Kyle Irvine, but with his limited shale experience, it would be a major surprise if he retained the title.
Instead, the favourites will be the local shale experts, of which there are very many! On a hot streak that never seems to end, 6 Simon Welton must start as the favourite, having already won the English championship at the track this season, in addition to the world and national titles gained elsewhere. His success has made him something of a target though, and the likes of brothers 26 Tommy and 131 Timmy Barnes, plus 161 Billy Smith are sure to be out to stop him.
World & English Champion 6 Simon Welton will start as pre meeting favorite but could well find himself being a marked man
Beyond Welton, national points and ORC champion 730 Deane Mayes will be a strong contender as will Heacham’s 641 Willie Skoyles Jr, the European champion, and 2003 champion 499 David Aldous, who should be using his new car at the track for the first time.
Other potential winners are really too numerous to mention, but ones to watch who may not be the most obvious choices include 570 Simon Venni, who has been right in the mix for several major honours in recent times without managing to come out on top, and 149 Jamie Sampson, runner-up (behind his brother Lee) in the event when it was last held at King’s Lynn four years ago.
Can 570 Simon Venni finally get on the top step of the podium after finishing second in two major events at Lynn over the past few years
Other top runners on shale include British under-25 champion 306 Daniel Parker and 218 Jacob Downey who has shown strong enough form to be in with a sniff of his first major honours.
Joining Irvine on the trip from Scotland are national points contenders 670 Ross Watters and 684 Ian McLaughlin, plus 38 Barry Glen, 301 Raymond Dick and 777 Alan Ainslie, while 811 Kieran McIvor travels from Northern Ireland. Also coming from overseas will be Dutchman H250 Gert Hoekman.
811 Kieran McIvor heads the challenge from Northern Ireland
With all the heats and final to be run on the same night, it should make for a hectic night of action-packed racing.
Unlimited Bangers War of the Worlds
After its successful revival last year, the six-a-side War of the Worlds has stepped up a level for 2017, with a huge turnout of cars and teams drawn from across the country.
An action packed War of the Worlds meeting in 2016 looks like it will be stepping up a level in 2017 with a huge turnout of cars booked to race.
160 Shayn Winsor’s VS Massive team defend the title, with the veteran ably back-up by a crew including son 960 Ross Winsor, plus speedy teenager 757 Callum Gill and multi-champion 328 Daniel Lathan.
The competition will be massive, both with teams going for the overall win, and those out to entertain. Into the latter camp fall former champions the Bears, plus the Shunters who have entered two teams, and Team Sowter-Filmer.
Expect Team Sowter / Filmer to be a top contender for most entertaining team of the meeting award!
Big-name visiting teams include the notorious DWO and Team Grey & Black squads, the legendary Team Black and former Icebreaker champions Team Extreme. The Wild Boyz are King’s Lynn regulars but still have a relatively long journey south.
There is also a surprise return for a top Trackstar team of the past (albeit one based in Stoke), the Blooz Boys, headed by 200 Steve ‘Noon’ Farrell.
The Dorset Runners are an intriguing looking team, with a heavy Midnight Runners influence headed by 331 Jason ‘Boxer Jack’ Jackson.
Top locals include the Mad Hatters and Team Jackpot, while Team Mates will look to translate their form from smaller-car team events to the big Unlimiteds, and Black & Blue should also be ones to watch.
Expect the Shunters to be heavily involved in the action!
With such a stonking entry, this meeting has all the ingredients to be one of the highlights of the season.
Funfair Rides
All the fun of the fair will be at King's Lynn on Saturday with the hugely popular Fun House making a reappearances. The good news for mum and dad is that this is free for the kids to go on as often as they like!
Late Bar & Disco
There will be a late Bar and Disco taking place on Saturday night in the main bar on the home straight where local legend DJ Grant will be rocking da house until the early hours!
Camping
There will be overnight camping available in the field opposite the stadium. Please note that there will be no security or facilities in this area but there is also no charge for camping.
Campers are politely reminded that fires and BBQs are not permitted in the camping area and to please take their rubbish away with them!
