Preview by Matt Black

It’s action and bangers and crash for a Sunday afternoon full of entertainment and destruction with no less than four formulas of banger racing in all forms and guises.  There will be plenty to play for in our two national banger classes with the lively 2 litre bangers in their next instalment of the road to gold for 2025.  On the racing side in the overall points it’s 552 Karl Douglas who currently leads the way with some very good performances.  He has been a hard man to catch at times round here, and he now goes back up in grade to red, which will certainly make things a little more difficult for him and he will be joined in the red grade by the man who is looking to hunt him down in the points in 312 Brad White. Brad who is a former Micro UK Champion is a driver who can certainly be a threat to all if given the opportunity to score well, and you’d have to say that one of the two mentioned drivers would fancy their chances of not only scoring well on come Sunday, but then going on to claim the points title in the 2 litres.  The world however is always wide open, and going into this year the battle is hotting up for qualification into one of the biggest races of the year, on the biggest stage of them all.  Karl and Brad will certainly be two drivers to keep an eye on, but waiting in the wings is the National points champion of 2024 69 Brad Bartram!! An almost impeccable season for the local young man, who not only grabbed his maiden points title and then got himself second in the entertainer league and then grabbed driver of the year at the awards night which was well deserved.  He is currently back there in third spot and sits 24 points behind Karl Douglas, but one good meeting for Brad, and that could really help him out.  337 Pretty Boy, 12 Troy Boy, and 370 Johnny C all there as well who will look to have a good run, they’re certainly in with a good chance of qualifying for the world final, but there are plenty of challengers.  Have a look at our points section online to keep up to date as to who is currently sat inside the all important top 15 for qualification and who currently sits just outside and who needs to grab themselves vital points to get inside and move inside the top 15.  The 2 Litre entertainer league is something that is catching the eye, and with the unexpected news the Luke Rawlins is making the move into another formula, it has blown the race to the top wide open.  Brad Bartram and 51 James Licquorice are in the hunt to claim that now, and James will certainly look to focus on grabbing the entertainer points title in the 2 litres, Brad may still be swayed by having a crack at the points, so this could certainly be one too watch on the action front on Sunday afternoon, the 2024 Entertainer league champion will be looking to get stuck in and blow some cobwebs away.  28 Mac Bell is another driver who can give himself a chance in the entertainers league, he currently sits inside the top five, and could look to mount a challenge,

The 1600’s are also in action, and as we go to press we have just short of 60 cars taking to the track, and they start their road to the national title, Joel Bond leads the entertainers league, but it’s a totally fresh start on the points front.  It should certainly be lively with the likes of defending national champion 608 Lenny Murkin heading the bookings, and he will be joined by 644 Alfie Sime who has certainly had a lively start to his time with us at Trackstar.  Alfie could be a driver who sets his sights on the entertainers league, and with the way he goes about his racing and the displays he has put on so far, you can certainly see him being in with a chance come the end of the season.  Over the last 12 months there have been several rivalries started in the 1600cc banger formula, and we’re expecting a strong showing from the formula on Sunday.  There will be plenty of drivers who will be looking to have a good day and score plenty of points.  Over recent seasons this has become a very difficult race to qualify for, and this will be a frantic start to the season for these drivers.  9 Ben Cox, 30 Brandon Mayes, 479 Joel Allen, 566 Tony Pallet and 713 Oscar Preston will be looking to go well and score some good points, all of whom will be on the shortlist to qualify for the 1600cc national championship.  267 Tom Wright and 743 Kavan Barton are drivers who have been quality on the domestic scene in recent seasons, and I’d expect them to go well on Sunday.  The Giddings brothers will also be two to keep an eye on, they were very entertaining at 1600cc icebreaker, and new recruit to Trackstar for this coming season 512 Kieron Rowe will be another who I will tip to have a good season with us, and I think he could be one too watch as the season goes on, he is a very quick driver and took to the shale here very well at the recent 1600cc icebreaker by grabbing a win, he could quite easily grab one on Sunday.

The Juniors are also back in action, and we have a very impressive 45 of them currently which shows that the future of the sport is in incredibly good hands.  Leading the line up is the returning points champion 609 Levi Murkin, who’s form has been nothing short of phenomenal in recent months, he will be a difficult young man to stop from scoring strongly again on Sunday, and whilst he will be moving into adult bangers half way into this season, he will be looking to give a good go on the points front to remind everyone as to how good he is.  It’s also great to see plenty of new drivers out there with the likes of Swalley Douglas and Wesley Parrin taking to the track in their first meeting after showing up well at the practice day back in February.  It’s also the white and yellow final for our lower graders of 2024, and what a way to start their season, who will take the honour? There will be plenty in with a chance, and I’m sure it will be hotly contested, the race will be in graded order with the scorer of the highest amount of points at the front of their grade.  This means the drivers who progressed to higher grades in 2024 will have it all to do as they will start further back, it normally tends to lead itself to a very exciting race, and it’s a great way to open the afternoon.

Completing the bill are the Lady Unlimited Bangers with a good field of drivers booked.  Top young drivers 150 Katelyn Parrin and 455 Lexi Finney will be looking to have a good first season in the unlimited ladies, and they join more experienced drivers on the grid, the likes of quality driver 419 Laura Quadling, and the Gold Roof Champion 502 Becca Bitson will lead the charge, and will expect to get some decent results.  The lively 28 Chloe Bricknell, 246 Ellie Burt and 219 Jemma White will also be drivers who will look to entertain whilst getting thoroughly stuck in through the afternoon. The ladies have took this formula from strength to strength in recent times, and I expect this to be no different.

This is certainly going to be a quality afternoon of action, so please join us for a quality day.

See you there

Matt
