Update and thanks on World Final

On behalf of Buxton Raceway and everyone at Trackstar and the Adrian Flux Arena we would like to thanks all race fans, drivers and teams for their patience during the problems which were experienced during the staging of the F1 Stock Car World Final meeting on Saturday.

It is safe to say we have never staged an event where so many “freakish” events have occurred which were beyond the control of anyone.

51 Dylan Williams-Maynard has been diagnosed with a shattered knee cap in six places after his throttle stuck open and he hit another car at the end of the straight at full racing speed. Our best wishes go to him for a speedy recovery.

It took a long time to extract Dylan from his car with Dylan being in an exceptional amount of pain. Unfortunately some people seem to have thought that the amount of time devoted to Dylan was excessive. However we will never rush any medical crews dealing with the safety of a driver and if they need an hour so that a driver is removed from a car with as little pain and discomfort as possible together with ensuring that any possible injuries are not made worse that is what they will have regardless of what races may be cancelled afterwards!

Our thanks go to our safety marshalls, rescue team and medical staff who did an excellent job in the speedy and safe extraction of Dylan together with members of other race teams who offered assistance and helped when requested.

Darren Garwell, the photographer who was knocked over by a marker tyre which stopped an out of control car going onto the infield was discharged from hospital at 6am this morning and despite having a bad graze on his head and feeling more than a little stiff this morning is in great spirits and looking forward to being back behind the camera soon.

We are also pleased to report that the Adrian Flux track supremo Keith “Buster” Chapman despite also feeling a bit stiff and bruised after his tractor was hit at full speed by a car where the driver was unconscious but still had his foot to the floor whome we are also pleased to report is fine. Despite Buster being in his jack knifed tractor and water truck combo and in a lot of pain, the spirit of the venue owner was personified once again when he over ruled everyone and said that the F1 Final would continue and be completed!

Once again our thanks go to everyone involved in running what was a very difficult night for everyone. Our thanks go to Keith and his team for producing what looked like being one of the best world final tracks we had seen at Lynn and to the involvement of all drivers and teams. The atmosphere was electric for the big race and the first part of the race was wonderful Stock Car Racing entertainment! The support F1 action was great with the Dutch drivers playing a massive part in the meeting as well with some terrific race victories whilst the 2L Stock Cars produced the great racing we are used to seeing from them.

Whilst Saturday may be filed by several in the category of “one to forget” there were many, many aspects of it which personified what makes our sport so great!

Once again, we are sure on behalf of everyone associated with the sport we wish Dylan a speedy recovery and hope that Darren and Buster are back to being fully fit asap!

Congratulations also go to 318 Rob Speak who did not put a wheel wrong as he was crowned World Champion with 515 Frankie Wainman Jnr and 16 Matt Newson completing the top three in a very destructive race which featured two roll overs saw only ten drivers complete the distance.
