King’s Lynn All-Volvo Meeting 2018
Trackstar will be running an all-Volvo meeting in 2018 at King’s Lynn as part of the Unlimited National Banger fixtures for the year and this will take place on Saturday 28th July.
The specification for this event is very simple. Normal ORCi Unlimited National Banger rules will apply (including any new rules or amendments that come into effect between now and the date of the meeting) and these rules will govern the build of cars and engine swaps that can take place. We are encouraging drivers to run Volvo engines wherever possible to keep the meeting different to ordinary Unlimited fixtures. Drivers running modern multivalve engines at the Mk1 & Mk2 Granada meeting in 2017 were very much in the minority and once again we intend to run separate heats for Ford-engined cars at the Volvo meeting so as to keep the racing as fair as possible.
As far as car eligibility is concerned, normal Unlimited rules also apply and the only added requirement is that the car to be raced was manufactured by Volvo. So in summary, all cars must be:
· A Volvo!
· Rear wheel drive (and not a 4x4 converted to rear wheel drive)
· A minimum of 1,360kg on the MOT brake weight chart
By our calculations, this means that any 1-series, 2-series, 7-series or 9-series variant can be used. For avoidance of doubt, 3-series Volvos are below the minimum permitted weight and cannot be used at this meeting. If anybody has anything more unusual that they wish to race, then please contact the promotion to check first that it meets the Unlimited specifications.
We are already aware of some rarely-seen Volvo tin which people intend to use at this meeting so a little bit of variety is guaranteed. The majority of the machinery will be standard stuff though – let’s make this an extraordinary meeting for an ordinary Unlimited Banger marque.
Bookings for this event will open on 1 June.
