Randell Defends UK Championship

165 win

This Saturday Ben Randell (165) defends his Micro UK title he won 12 months ago; here he gives us a few words for Keith Organ ahead of the title defence. Full meeting details here: http://www.stockcar-racing.co.uk/content/news/sat-29-september-500pm-preview.ashx

The Randell family have been successful amongst the East Anglian Banger scene for a long, long time. Ben now taking up the mantle; is an established driver on the EA scene representing the legendary Steam Team colours.

“I’ve always wanted to race bangers since I was young, we went all the time to watch” explained Ben. “The first one, my Dad painted in the Steam Team colours and it got a lot of attention, so we carried on, I didn’t feel too much pressure racing in those colours; it was good to see the colours again!” Your Dad used black and blue colours more, didn’t want to use them? “I’m not sure really, i just let my Dad paint it how he wants to, it keeps him quiet”.

Winning the big race must have been a good feeling; particularly in the wet conditions? “Yeah it was a hard race, but it felt great to win; especially after I did all the Micro meetings all year to qualify. It made it all worth it” said Ben. So, what about this Saturday, must be feeling good? “Yeah, I feel confident, I can’t wait for it; I’ll be happy whatever way the race goes, I’ll try and do some laps, but if not, I’ll have a crash”.

Randell has already had a busy month; starting on pole in the World of Shale at the start of the month, which was a tough race for all involved; he explained: “Yeah, that was a hard race, as soon as we had done the rolling lap; we were already catching the back of the pack. The Head to head meeting (a couple of weeks ago) though, probably has to be the stand out meeting so far, it was good and there was good team work”.

You’re happy to race any type of car and race a variety of type of meeting, is there any preference? “A Micro can only take a couple days to build, but with Unlimiteds; it takes a lot more time. There’s only me and my Dad building the cars; I prefer the bigger cars over the Micros though, I do like the Lexus”.

You focus on racing at King’s Lynn and the occasional Mildenhall, you must prefer the shale? “ I do prefer the shale and I’m happy staying local, but I think we are going to try a couple others next year”. Randell added; “I’m happy in the bangers, but i wouldn’t mind trying a 2 Litre Saloon”.

Any plans for the rest of the year?. “Not really, just enjoy it as it comes, I’m looking forward to the Halloween havoc meeting and being back in the Unlimiteds” said Randell.

“I would just like to say a big thanks to my Dad for everything he does, I couldn’t do it without him, Brent Tillow, Chris Hubbard, Donald Stewart, Sophie Tillow for the videos, and Matt Tillow our paint sponsor. Lee White and Chris White, these are the people who fix the cars and make it all happen, without them it wouldn’t be possible, big thanks to you all”.

Thank you to Ben for his time and help with the above, good luck to him for the main race on Saturday and for the rest of the season.
