Unlimited Bangers
The big Unlimiteds make their first appearance at the track since the winter Icebreaker, with the East Anglian Championship on offer as well as the 2017 White & Yellow Grade Series Final.
Defending the East Anglian Championship is the legendary 617 Jack Overy, but he will have plenty of opposition among a star-studded line-up, with two-litre world champion 247 Lee ‘Bro’ Clarke and young gun 757 Callum Gill also former winners of the title.
617 Jack Overy will be defending the Unlimited Banger East Anglian title this Saturday
World of Shale champion 22 Dave Vincent, British and national points champion 830 Lee White and former winners of various titles 160 Shayn Winsor, 328 Daniel Lathan and 673 Darren Fendley are further big names in a heavyweight line-up.
World of Shale Champion 22 Dave Vincent heads a star studded line up
Those more likely to be looking for a big crash to entertain the crowd include regular southern visitors Team Sowter/Filmer, made up of 288 Carl and 388 Taylor Sowter, and 883 Jack and 884 Tom Filmer.
388 Taylor Sowter and the rest of Team Sowter / Filmer are likely to be amongst those providing the crashing entertainment
The Bears are represented by Unlimited Banger ever-present 266 Callum Hall and 321 Kieran Fry, while the Shunters’ 514 Charlie Taylor and 768 Danny McSweeney are also set for a wrecking spree.
321 Keiran Fry will be in action for the Bears
Top local entertainers include 551 Brett Jackson and 791 Nicky Young, but there are plenty of long-distance travellers, including Dutchman 211 Dennis Vorkink and Stoke duo 171 Tommy West and 200 Steve ‘Noon’ Farrell.
Expect plenty of smiles and crashes from long distance traveller Dutchman 211 Dennis Vorkink
With the White & Yellow Grade Series Final also on the programme, the entry features a number of drivers who don’t race Unlimiteds very often.
Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars
The Clive Grief Memorial, postponed from 3 March, is the main trophy on offer. This year is its tenth staging, and only one man has lifted the trophy twice – double world champion Simon Welton, who has now hung his helmet up.
2L Stock Car Drivers will be remembering the much missed Clive Grief (Pictured with son Luke)
So, as things stand, there are only two previous winners in the field – reigning world champion 306 Daniel Parker and 570 Simon Venni. 219 Luke Grief would obviously love to get his hands on his father’s memorial trophy. In recent years this has been his only appearance of the season on what was his local track, but that probably won’t be the case this year, with the World Final coming to town in the summer.
World Champion 306 Dan Clarke is one of only two previous winners of the Clive Grief Memorial in the field on Saturday
World of Shale and ORC champion 349 Michael Allard will be aiming to get the defence of his King’s Lynn track championship off to a good start, but he’ll face plenty of stiff competition from the likes of European champion 730 Deane Mayes, hometown man 641 Willie Skoyles Jr and former world champion 360 Carl Waterfield.
Expect a strong challenge to come from 730 Deane Mayes
Dutch national points champion H32 Frankie van Riet makes the trip from Holland, while joining Grief on the road down from Scotland is 600 Barry Russell, who loves his shale racing.
Scotsman 600 Barry Russell loves his shale racing!
Local racer 26 Tommy Barnes will use his bumper to full effect, while there is a debut for fellow Norfolk man 172 Jack Rust.
Expect 26 Tommy Barnes to be in the middle of the action!
The 25-and-under Championship of Great Britain is also on offer, with Parker the defending champion. He will be aiming to win the title for the third time. Other potential winners include 2016 English champion 217 Sid Madgwick, rising star 399 Cole Atkins who – like 120 Luke Dorling – is not yet even 18 so has plenty more chances, and 171 Adam O’Dell who has firmly found his feet in the formula.
399 Cole Atkins - who is not even 18 yet - should be a strong contender for the 25 & Under Championship of GB
1300cc Stock Cars
The smaller stock cars contest their own version of the Clive Grief Memorial. With reigning champion Billy Smith on the sidelines, it will be left to World of Shale champion 216 Dan Booth to see if he can claim the title a second time, having won the inaugural edition of this version in 2010.
216 Dan Booth is the only previous winner of the 1300 Stock Car Clive Grief Memorial
Proudly sporting his silver roof for the first time at King’s Lynn will be national points champion 450 Luke Jackson. How will he fare from the very back of the grid? Joining him in the superstars are the new English champion – Spedeworth veteran 303 Dougie George – and Scottish visitor 124 Andrew Mathieson.
450 Luke Jackson will be proudly sporting the silver roof of National Points Champion for the first time at King's Lynn
2016 world champion 333 Daniel Weavers will be relieved to be starting a little further forward, even if it is only as far as the red grade, from where 422 Martin Taylor could be one to watch, as well as another Scotsman, ex-F1 and F2 driver 388 Paul Ford.
422 Martin Taylor could be one to watch from the red grade
149 Todd Payne could be a threat from the blues, having been superstar graded not so long ago,
Expect 149 Todd Payne to be a dangerous performer from the blues
As always, the white grade is bursting with the constant conveyor belt of newcomers to the formula. 116 Nat Cohn could be worth keeping an eye on, as could fellow Banger converts 142 Jack Lower, 560 Andrew Milner and 769 Ben Englestone.
The 1300s will also contest their White & Yellow Grade Series Final, where 421 Chris Taylor, and a few drivers now graded blue, including 191 Luke Leedell, 681 Dan Moore and 704 Stuart Henderson should be leading contenders.
Now graded blue, 681 Dan Moor is expected to put in a good perforance in the White & Yellow final
Funfair Ride
All the fun of the fair will be at King's Lynn on Saturday. The good news for mum and dad is that the ride will be free for the kids to go on as often as they like!
