Introduction
The domestic racing action at the Adrian Flux Arena this weekend is provided by 1500cc National Bangers, 1300cc Stock Cars, Lady Bangers and UK Modifieds in a full Sunday afternoon programme beginning at 1pm. There’s titles on the line for the both the 1500cc Bangers – which contest the inaugural Geoff Pallett Memorial – and Lady Bangers, with their Gold Roof up for grabs.
Any driver who is looking to race but not booked in must book in asap on 01553 771111 / 07939 580652. If you are listed below and no longer able to race you must also ensure you cancel asap. Any driver turning up not booked in will not receive their complimentary admissions they may be entitled to.
There are currently 47 1500cc Bangers, 34 1300cc Stock Cars and 21 Lady Bangers booked in for action.
Drivers please note that the pits open at 10am and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.
1500cc National Bangers
The local Banger Racing fraternity was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Geoff ‘Zippy’ Pallett earlier this year, and he will be fondly remembered this weekend. Zippy was chiefly known for racing in smaller cars, particularly the Bangerstox which were the forerunner of today’s 1500cc Bangers. He was crowned world champion in 2001, so son 566 Tony Pallett was delighted to emulate his father’s achievement by winning the equivalent title contested nowadays, the 1500cc National Championship.
567 Geoff "Zippy" Pallett will be remembered at King's Lynn on Sunday
So 566 ‘Zippy Jr’ heads the entry this weekend, with his car no doubt resplendent with its gold cross and family colours. 565 Darren Quadling and 419 Laura Quadling will also be in action on this poignant occasion.
Elsewhere, the entry includes national points leader and British champion 830 Lee White, local young gun 757 Callum Gill and strong contender 888 Lloyd Stark. After a slow start to the season, 337 Ashley Garrod is hitting form and should be among the pace-setters, while 315 Nathan Webb will be looking to emulate the stunning form he showed earlier in the season when he scorched to a hat trick of wins in one night.
Expect 566 Tony Pallet to be chasing the silverware
Others to look out for include the ever-committed 551 Brett Jackson, plus 352 Ben Mynott and the rest of a white grade entry packed with drivers who love nothing better than to entertain the crowd with a good crash.
1300cc Stock Cars
Following a spell mainly on the road, the little stock cars are back for the second time in a fortnight. Last time out, superstar 450 Luke Jackson claimed the final, while white-top 66 Carl Morgan was also a race winner. Each will be aiming to continue that kind of form.
450 Luke Jackson won the 1300 Stock Car final last time out
World champion 333 Daniel Weavers hasn’t had the best of fortune while wearing the gold roof, and it may well come as a relief to shed it later in the month. But he will be hoping to turn around his form before the big title defence.
World of Shale champion 216 Dan Booth has recently returned from a spell on the sidelines and should be among the frontrunners, while former two-litre star 391 Jake Banwell should challenge too, as he continues to learn the new formula after returning from a lengthy injury.
216 Dan Booth has been hitting top form recently
149 Todd Payne will be hoping that a drop to the blue grade gives him a boost, and 702 Allen Cooper – a multi-champion in other formulas – should also be a threat.
191 Luke Leedell has been going very well in his smart new car, and could be one to watch, while the white grade continues to be packed with newcomers including a first appearance for 951 Lorna Caton.
Lady Bangers
Hot on the heels of their British Championship, won on Monday by 74 Caroline Garner from 72 Breeze Atkin and 477 Amy Brown, the ladies contest their biggest title of the year, the Gold Roof Championship.
Each of those three will be back in action and seeking the big prize, with Brown being the defending title holder. Despite the qualifying process being weighted towards lower-graded drivers, Brown has still secured a third row start for the big race from where she must start as one of the favourites, along with second-row starter and former champion 3 Danielle Ellis.
Blue-grade drivers 635 Debbie Price and 511 Liz Williams start on the front row, and should not be ruled out, if they can make a clean start and pull out an early lead.
UK Modifieds
The American-style cars make their annual appearance at the track and are sure to impress with their style, noise and pace. The entry is likely to feature some familiar names to those who follow BriSCA F1 and BriSCA F2 racing, with – among others – 28 Simon Panton and 97 Murray Harrison both leading lights of the formula. Currently, the standings are topped by 53 Daniel Bunyard from 297 James Harrison and 306 Colin Bunyard.
