2 Litre Rear Wheel Drive – Important Engine News
Drivers are alerted to an important piece of news for the larger 2 Litre rear wheel drive class on Sunday 19th August. The larger class of cars running this day (Triumph, Mk3 Granada, Carlton, Mercedes W124, etc.) will now be permitted to use the black top Ford Zetec engine as an alternative to the Pinto or Volvo engine swap. This decision has not been taken lightly, but reflects the fact that drivers in this class seem to be genuinely struggling to get engines for their cars. Given that this class will be mainly made up of 2 litre cars (e.g. nothing smaller) and there will be Triumph 6-pots and built pintos in any case, we do not feel that the black top engine represents an advantage in this class.
No other Ford 16 valve engines will be allowed (unless original to the car) and the black top is strictly only permitted in the larger class of cars. People bringing cars to the Cortina, Sierra, Capri, Marina, etc., etc. class must still use either the original engine or a crossflow, pinto or Volvo engine as originally advised.
